Our Conductor - Dr. Fred Goldrich

Fred Goldrich, Conductor of the Bangor Band since 2005, began his conducting career over thirty-five years ago in musical theater, leading dozens of productions all around the country. He then moved on to the symphonic field, where his activities included guest conducting, four seasons as Conductor of the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra, and a seven-year stint as Music Director of the South Shore Philharmonic in New York. In 1999 he relocated to Trenton with his wife, Geri, and since then has conducted musical comedy and operatic productions at the Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth, including five Gilbert and Sullivan operettas for the G&S Society of Hancock County, in addition to his work with the Band.

Prior to committing himself to a musical career, he fully intended to make his name in physics, and earned a Ph.D. in the field through his work with Nobel laureate Eugene Wigner at Princeton University. He has never regretted either that change or his move to Maine, where Geri and their Golden Retriever, Randy, are frequent members of the Bangor Band audience.
